Translating Motion Across the Event
Project description
The RIMOWA Design Prize is a celebration of German design excellence through the empowerment of creative talents shaping the future. This year, we had the unique opportunity to bring the story of Design Prize to life, developing an intuitive motion system designed to scale across installations, promotional materials, and social campaigns. Inspired by terminal signage of the past, the motion system breathes a new life into a bygone era of airport and train station wayfinding. The visual motif fits like a glove considering the world RIMOWA comes from. Mobility has always been a central theme for the German travel brand, and the second edition of the Design Prize is no exception. “Capable of being interpreted and reconfigured in a seemingly endless number of ways, it is important to consider what mobility means to everyone, and not just those who are able.” The motion system shuffles and files information in an unexpected way, like playing Tetris with luggage. Despite the many moving pieces, the motion unfolds against a solid, grid-like foundation, allowing the information to remain digestible and keeping the system’s primary function as a means of communicating. The RIMOWA Design Prize is more than an incubator for aspirational ideas, it is an initiative that converts potential into tangible projects that have a lasting impact on global issues. It’s been a privilege to see how the motion system has been put on display leading up to and throughout the event, and we are honored to have contributed to the growing legacy that this award continues to define.
